English Bulldog Pup

An English Bulldog Pup is but the cutest creature in the world, so many people develop a strong and long-lasting liking to the breed after just a brief look at a Bulldog picture. The English Bulldog of today is a compact and sturdy companion dog, and he is not intended for any service. English Bulldogs are very sensitive to temperature fluctuations and they should not be exposed to overstrains, requiring only moderate physical activity.

English Bulldog Pups are valuable for their friendly and loving disposition. They appreciate various types of interaction. English Bulldogs are very intelligent, although they do have a stubborn streak and hence they can be hard to train for novice dog owners. The English Bulldog is very different from the Old English Bulldog, its progenitor, whose ferocious and wary temperament made him irreplaceable in bull baiting and dog fighting contests.

The exact origin of the breed is shrouded in mystery. The predecessors of Molosser dogs are believed to have originated in the east and have arrived in England by way of commercial routes. Those would-be Bulldogs were very large and strong, and they were valuable for their unmatched ferocity and determination. The Old English Bulldog appeared after crossing that eastern Mastiff with some local dog. Old English Bulldogs were used extensively as butcher dogs, as they proved helpful in killing bulls and other large animals for meat. Modern Bulldog Pups have almost nothing in common with those canine monsters, although they have retained the toughness of appearance.

The bull baiting sport goes back to the year 1209, when Lord Stamford accidentally observed a fight between two bulls, which were then attacked by butcher dogs and chased along the streets of the city. The Lord was so impressed with the spectacle that he donated the meadow where the battle took place to butchers so that they would arrange fights between their bulls and dogs. Later, this became a tradition, which existed many centuries. In bull baiting contests, dogs were supposed to grab bulls by the nose with their strong clenching mandibles and hold them down on the ground. The jaws of modern English Bulldog Pups clench in a similar fashion.

The today’s English Bulldog is a well muscled, thick-necked and strong-legged dog with a wrinkly muzzle and large eyes. Wither height averages 11-14 inches, and the accepted weight is 53-55 lbs. The coat is smooth and short, and it comes in red, brindle, fawn, tan, white or any combinations of these colors. If you want to have a purebred English Bulldog Pup, you should find a conscientious and reputable Bulldog breeder, who breeds for quality, not for profit.
