Bulldogs are special dogs that should be bought only from reputable kennels. Ask your breeder about the breeding program he or she has used. Ask to see the pedigree, registration papers and references. It does not matter whether you are looking for a pet quality or show quality dog. The standards of a good breeder are the same.
When looking for a dog from an ethical breeder, you should be aware of the qualities of an ethical breeder. Animal shelters are overrun with dogs from irresponsible breeders. Those who want to obtain a dog of this breed as a pet should consider adopting a dog from a shelter. However, if you are searching for a show dog with guaranteed health, temperament, size, working ability, and other important aspects, seek a purebred dog from a reputable kennel.
Responsible breeders care about each dog they bring into this world. They are always willing to keep track of the pups they sell. If something does not work out, they are ready to take their purebred pup back.
Before buying a pup, do your homework and learn as much as possible about the breed you are interested in. Bulldogs are prone to some serious health issues. A Bulldog owner will also have to deal with stubbornness, snorting, wheezing, loud snoring, and shedding. Some Bulldogs may be slow to housebreak.
